Reviewed Classic and Alran goatskin samples received on October 30, assessing thickness, temper, and suitability for future prototypes. Initial evaluation showed the hides were thinner than preferred and likely to require backing, placing them in the category of practice materials rather than viable structural candidates.

I intend to discuss this in depth soon; for now quick documentation.
The Classic grey goatskin was on a clearance deal and higher quality, and nearly the same cost as the practice leather I purchased at Tandy Leather.
Not having access at this moment to my measuring tool, I can tell this is thinner than I'd prefer; to what extent I will confirm soon. I reasoned it would require backing to make this work, which is part of future learning but not a priority right now.
The additional samples land about the same. My early research indicated that goat is a popular leather in bookbinding. I need to revisit weights to see what can work with my application.
Good for practice, unfortunately not enough body for prototyping. It's a bit of a tightrope act for now.
