Completed the second version of the watercolor booklet using heavier cover board, 18/3 linen thread, and initial Coptic-stitch trials with curved needles. Documented station-tension issues, thread performance, and over-punch observations while tracking delayed thread delivery and ongoing supplier variability affecting upcoming template work.

Made: In-House Commission | Watercolor booklet Ver 2.0
Piece: 8 of ∞

In this version I used some heavier cover board material I received with the samples I ordered from Astro. Using the 18/3 linen I received, I tried my hand at Coptic stitching.
Once I got used to the rhythm and switched to a curved needle the process became a lot easier.
Utilized Books Bind Faye as teaching and reference guide.
Learned
I didn't anchor loop the head and tail stations which made the two middle stations quite heavy with thread and the outside quite thin, even slightly looser. This is inexperience.
The 18/3 linen held up well considering I expected a similar failure to October 20th’s first leather cover punching and sewing.
Unrelated to this watercolor book, it's easy to over-punch holes in leather when using a soft substrate. Seemed to go past the 1 mm mark, perhaps to 1.5 or so; the thickest part of the punch.
Final Notes & Comments
The .6 mm waxed thread that I ordered has been delayed a second time. Now I'm sourcing other suppliers.
The Shinwa Square that I'll use primarily for sizing up templates and cutting leather is set to arrive this Friday. Will update.
Supply lines continue to be a minor frustration, conservatively. I now have roughly six different suppliers I check regularly, each specializing in similar and dissimilar products. It's my hope to condense down when and where possible as we settle into a routine pending the arrival of all the materials we need to start templating the 9×6 and smaller travel-sized journals.
